I had a lovely piece of reclaimed wood that I wanted to re-use. The dimensions were kind of extreme, 16” by 9 feet long. But I was determined to use it without altering its dimensions. Lael and I collaboratively worked through several iterations to come up with the final design. It went off to the fabricator, Dan Mella. He made a few more tweaks before informing us we had a major ‘stability problem’! How to get rid of the wobbling?? A few sketches later and we came up with a solution that solves the structural issues, while actually improving the design and keeping the original concept intact. That’s what I call a ‘happy mistake’!
